BA launches new "city jet" service

British Airways have now commenced their new service from LCY to JFK. The new route utilises 2 specially modified A318 aircraft. Crew have also received special training. Captains have undertaken steep approach training at RAF Lyneham. Here, runway markers imitate LCY touchdown zone, and end point, while visual approach slope indicators will simulate the 5.5 degree glideslope.

Part of Airbus modification of the A318's includes a "steep approach switch" which when pushed enables the approach to be flown with the speedbrakes partially deployed. British Airways now link two of the most important world business centres, and look forward to the continued success of the new venture.
